Sundromble

sundromble (sun-DROM-bul) — noun. From Old Northern dialect sun (sun) + dromble (a slow, reluctant gesture).

Definition: The small, specific sadness experienced when folding a freshly laundered towel that smells so unreasonably pleasant — sun, soap, distant orchard — that the act of placing it into a dark cupboard feels like a minor moral failure.

Usage: "He stood at the airing cupboard, paralysed by sundromble, holding the towel like a sleeping cat."

Note: Sundromble can also be applied, more loosely, to: warm bedsheets that should not be lain upon during daylight, books too pretty to crack open, and any pastry whose appearance argues persuasively against being eaten.
